KMI Seminar Series: Korea as System Exporter (Dec 11, 2015)

Friday, December 11, 2015
Title: Korea Trade and Industrial Policy: System Exporter in New Economy. Speaker: Mr. Chang Kyu Kim, Minister-Counselor for Trade, Industry and Energy at Embassy of the Republic of Korea. Three examples of Korea as a system exporter in the new economy: 1. Sugil natural gas project in Uzbekistan — a joint venture (Uz-Kor Gas Chemical) to build and operate a major Uzbek gas processing plant, completed September 2015. 2. Barakah nuclear power plant in the UAE — a Korean consortium building four commercial nuclear reactors by 2020, ahead of schedule, to be jointly operated for 60 years. 3. IT Converged Digital Hospitals in Saudi Arabia — leveraging Korea's IT and medical expertise to upgrade Saudi Arabia's national health care infrastructure. In all three, Korea exported advanced technology systems, knowledge, services and know-how, transferring state-of-the-art technology and enabling partner countries to adopt and further develop it. Prepared by Sungyong In, KMI Coordinator.
