FEATURED SPEAKER:

Henry Yeung
Provost’s Chair and Professor of Economic Geography, Director of the JY Pillay Comparative Asia
Research Centre, Co-Director of the Global Networks Centre, National University of Singapore

Based on his recent book published by Cornell University Press, Strategic Coupling: East Asian Industrial Transformation in the New Global Economy, Professor Yeung will examine economic development and state-firm relations in East Asia, focusing on the region’s emerging role in the new global economy. Drawing from his empirical research on South Korea, Taiwan, and Singapore, he argues that global production network dynamics and firm-specific initiatives are critical to the successful industrial transformation of these East Asian economies in the contemporary era. Professor Yeung’s work offers a new perspective on state-firm relations in the changing context of global economic governance in East Asia.
